Today’s theatre organs entertain audiences with music from various decades, but these magnificent instruments were originally designed to accompany silent films. At Dairyland, we honor this heritage by offering silent film showings alongside our concerts.
Here are our upcoming events, as well as other silent film screenings featuring organ accompaniment in the region. We would love for you to join us!
Some events are open to the public, while others are exclusive to DTOS members. If you’re interested in attending a members-only event, this is a great reason to join! Membership provides access to these special experiences and connects you with fellow enthusiasts who share your passion for this unique art form.
Please note that not all performances listed below are sponsored or endorsed by the Dairyland Theatre Organ Society. We provide this calendar to help you find silent films accompanied by live organ music throughout the state and region, whether or not we are hosting these events. However, you may still encounter one of our members at these performances.

Not So Silent After All
The late Scott Foppiano accompanied a silent film at Carma Labs!
Although they are called “silent films,” these movies were never meant to be experienced in silence. Theatre organs, like the one featured in the video above, were specifically designed to enhance these films by providing not just music, but also sound effects such as galloping hooves, bird songs, and sirens, all of which added life to each scene. One organist playing a single instrument responds to the visuals in real time, and this is the tradition that Dairyland aims to preserve today.

The Circus – Madison, WI – Capitol Theatre
Head to the Capitol City for a delightful screening of one of Charlie Chaplin’s most cherished comedies! Watch as his endearing Little Tramp inadvertently becomes the shining star of a struggling circus, turning every blunder into pure hilarity. With its charming physical comedy and touching moments, “The Circus” is a wonderful gateway for those new to silent films and a beloved classic for devoted fans. Don’t miss this chance to enjoy laughter and music!

Phantom of the Opera – Franklin, WI – Carma Labs (Carmex Warehouse)
The Phantom of the Opera is set to make a comeback in Franklin, WI! Mike Jacklin will return to the console to amaze us once again. If you joined us for King of Kings, you witnessed Mike’s fantastic performance, and he will be bringing that same energy to this show.

If you have not yet visited Carma Labs to hear and see the world’s largest symphonic theatre organ, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience it.
A Christmas Carol – Burlington, WI – St John the Divine Episcopal Church
St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Burlington, WI, is concluding the fifth anniversary of their silent film series. To wrap up this season, they will be featuring a reprise of “A Christmas Carol,” accompanied by a short film about the nativity of Christ. This is an opportunity to experience the church organ transitioning from leading worship and hymns to engaging the audience while they watch the films.
