Our August outing was a little different than normal. But that is okay!
Gary K is providing us with beautiful music.
Most of the time, our socials are focused on music, but on the 14th, we decided to change things up a bit. A small group of us took an evening drive to East Troy, Wisconsin, to visit the East Troy Railroad Museum, where we enjoyed great music and a fun trolley ride.
If you are not aware, Dairyland is installing an organ at the Trolley Depot! Given the connection many of us feel between trains and organs, this outing felt like a natural fit. And just because there is not a pipe organ there yet does not mean we could not still enjoy an organist — Gary K played his Yamaha Electone.
This is something he often does at the museum, since he performs before the dinner train excursion, among other things.
Since this was a more informal event, Gary did not announce what he was playing, so I do not have a playlist — but he did a wonderful job working through the Great American Songbook and other styles that delighted not only my ear but everyone else’s.

After the informal concert, we all went outside and boarded a trolley! We had a great time as we rolled along the tracks, learning about the railroad’s history and the surrounding area.
We walked a few blocks to the trolley shed, where we had a rare behind-the-scenes look at some of the cars they operate.
